How We Plan a Journey

Sand dunes with marram grass and a boardwalk leading down to the sea.
  • Routes We Have Walked

Every itinerary is scouted on foot before it is written, in the season we recommend it.

  • Weather and Light

Days are planned around wind, tides, and daylight rather than around round numbers.

  • Sensible Kit

Packing advice built for real weight limits, not for shop windows or brand lists.

  • Getting There Slowly

We favour places you can reach by train, bus, or ferry, and say so when you cannot.

Our Mission

At Slow Compass, our mission is to make unhurried travel easy to plan. We believe a good trip comes from matching the day to its real limits: the light, the tide, the timetable, and the weight on your back. Our guides are specific enough to follow and flexible enough to abandon when something better appears.

Slow Compass exists for travellers who like the journey to count for something. Our guides are built around a simple idea: a trip goes better when the plan matches the day’s real constraints, which are usually light, weather, tides, and timetables rather than ambition.

We favour routes you can walk without a support vehicle, towns you can reach by train or bus, and itineraries with an unplanned afternoon left in them. Where we give a distance or a timing, it comes from walking it rather than from a map measurement.

Whether you have three days on a coastal path or one long ride through a valley, the aim is the same: arrive unhurried, and notice more of what you passed.
